Women's Tennis Opens Season At Cornell Fall Classic

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's tennis team began its Fall Season on Friday at the Cornell Fall Classic, picking up a number of victories in singles play. The tournament runs through the weekend.
In the "A" Singles Flight, newcomer Chantal Martinez-Blanco won her first match as she defeated Gabriella Spindler from Army, 6-2, 6-3, before falling in her second match to the number one seed in the tournament. Sophomore Tanja Stojanovska won both of her matches in the "A" Flight as she won her first match, 6-0, 6-2 and then defeated the tournament's second seed, 6-2, 6-2 to move into the semifinal round.
In the "B" Flight, Dayana Agasieva won her first match as she defeated Nan Porter from Army, 6-3, 6-3 before falling to the tournament's fourth seed. Newcomer Sanjana Sudhir won her first match 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Ana Glumac from Army before falling to the third seed.
Mercedes Losada Rubio moved into the semifinals in the "C" Flight consolation bracket, while Margarita Kotok will face Shea Brodsky from Binghamton in the consolation bracket as well.
In the "D" Singles Flight, Laura Holterbosch moved into the semifinals with a pair of victories on Friday. She advanced on an injury withdrawal in the first round and then defeated the second seed Lucy Gloninger from Towson, 6-2, 6-3.
Singles and doubles action continues tomorrow and concludes on Sunday.
