BUFFALO, NY - Senior pitcher Tori Speckman has been named the MAC East Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. This is the third time this season that Speckman has been honored. She shares the honor this week with Ohio's Savannah Jo Dorsey.
Speckman threw just the third no-hitter in school history on Saturday afternoon and the first since 2010 as she shutout Ohio in UB's MAC opener, 4-0. Speckman pitched to just three over the minimum as she allowed just three walks on the afternoon. Speckman struck out 10 Ohio hitters in the no-hitter, which was the first of her career. In three appearances this past week, Speckman struck out 27 batters in 20.2 innings pitched, averaging over a strikeout per inning. She had at least eight punch outs in all three games, while only walking six total batters all week.
Speckman now has 143 strikeouts on the year in 131.1 innings pitched, while walking just 36 batters. She is currently third in the MAC in strikeouts and wins, while she is fifth in the league in innings pitched. For her career, Speckman now has 445 strikeouts, which is second most in school history. Her 11 wins give her 37 for her career, just five shy of the all time school mark.
Speckman and the Bulls will open their home schedule on Wednesday afternoon as they begin a 10-game homestand with a doubleheader against Niagara at 3:00 pm.
