
Softball Makes Second Attempt To Begin MAC Play

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team will hit the road this weekend for road games at Akron and Ohio. The Bulls are one of two conference teams looking to get league play started after having last weekend cancelled due to weather. The weekend begins on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at Akron beginning at 1:00pm and followed with single games this weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Ohio.
The Bulls are 15-14 heading into the weekend, their most wins prior to conference play since 2009. UB has four players hitting over .300, led by senior Holly Luciano who is batting .349 with 22 runs batted in. Junior Karly Nevez is hitting .347, while Hayley Barrow and Alexis Curtiss are batting .312 and .302, respectively.
In the circle, Tori Speckman leads the team with a 2.13 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 118.1 innings pitched. She brings a 10-8 record into the weekend and the 10 victories are already tied for seventh most in school history in a single season.
Akron enters the weekend with a 15-6 record and has won its last four with two-game sweeps of Niagara and Eastern Michigan. The Zips are hitting .293 as a team, which is led by Chelsea Wildey, who driven in a team-high 13 runs. Jessica Reiman and Jessica Schneider are both hitting .364 on the year.
Erin Seiler leads the Zips' pitching staff with a 9-2 record and a 1.89 ERA in 81.2 innings pitched. She has struck out 80 batters.
Ohio begins the weekend with an 18-14 record and a 3-1 record in conference play. The Bobcats are led by Adrienne Gebele, who is batting .364 with nine doubles. Alexandria Basquez has driven in a team-high 25 runs and has nine doubles and three home runs.
Savannah Jo Dorsey leads the team with a 2.91 ERA and a 13-10 record. She has 145 strikeouts in 132.1 innings pitched.
