BUFFALO, NY - For the second time this season, senior forward Javon McCrea was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week. McCrea averaged 22.0 points and 17.0 rebounds in victories over Ball State and Central Michigan.
In the victory over the Chippewas, McCrea had 25 points and 20 rebounds as he was nearly unstoppable down low. He became the first UB player to have a 20/20 night since 2007, while adding an assist and two blocks. To begin the week, McCrea had 19 points and 14 rebounds in a blowout win over Ball State, adding an assist, two steals and three blocks. In that game he became the 26th player in MAC history to go over 1,800 career points. McCrea now has 11 double-doubles on the year and is averaging one for the year at 18.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.
McCrea has also moved closer to the all-time scoring record as his 25-point night gave him 1,826 for his career. He is now just seven points shy of second place and Jim Horne's scoring mark and just 82 points shy of the all-time scoring record held by Rasaun Young.
McCrea also moved over the 900-rebound mark on Saturday night and now has 905 for his career, only the third player in school history with at least 900 rebounds and the first in UB's modern era (1991-present).
McCrea and the Bulls have a busy week coming up as they begin a homestretch that involves all games against teams from the MAC East. That begins on Wednesday night at Miami (OH) and continues this Saturday afternoon when the Bulls welcome the Ohio Bobcats into town.
