BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo junior pitcher Tori Speckman has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The award is the first for Speckman and the first time a UB pitcher has been honored since 2004.
Speckman had the best year of her career in 2013 as she finished the campaign with a 2.15 ERA, fourth lowest in school history and five shutouts, tied for the second most in school history. The Alvin, TX native had a 10-9 record with three saves, second most in a single season, and she struck out 108 batters and walked just 28 in 130.0 innings pitched.
Speckman was named the MAC East Pitcher Of The Week earlier this season as she ran a streak of 27.1 straight innings without a run allowed, doing so over the course of six road games. Over the final 23.1 innings pitched this season, Speckman allowed just two runs and going back to her final 84.1 innings of the season, she allowed just 16 earned runs for an earned run average of 1.33. Over those final 19, appearances, Speckman allowed more than one earned run in a game just twice.
"Tori had an outstanding season and I am glad to see the she has been recognized for her efforts," said head coach Jen Teague. "It was a pleasure for me and our coaching staff to watch her grow through out the year and develop into one of the more dominant pitchers in this conference."
Speckman is the seventh player named second-team All-MAC since the Bulls joined the league. She is the first pitcher honored since Stacey Evans was named to the First Team in 2004 and just the second UB hurler ever named to an All-MAC team.
