BUFFALO, NY - New University at Buffalo men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley announced his first recruit Friday, inking Deyshonee Much to a National Letter of Intent. Much, a 6-4 shooting guard, spent this past season at Redemption Christian Academy in Massachusetts, but played high school basketball just down the road in Rochester at Gates Chili High School.
"Deyshonne is an exciting prospect," Hurley said. "He's a terrific perimeter shooter and I think he has a chance to be an elite defender for us. He's got a great work ethic and attitude. I know he is going to fit in well to the future of UB Basketball."
While at Redemption, he averaged 19.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. He was one of RCA's best defenders as he averaged 2.1 steals per game.
At Gates Chili High School, he averaging 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game his senior season. He was a part of the 2012 Greater Rochester Ronald McDonald House High School All-Star team and was named second-team All-Greater Rochester his senior year.
Much will join fellow signee Shannon Evans, who signed his NLI back in November. Evans spent the past season at the prestigious Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. He helped lead the team to a 38-8 overall record, including a career-best 50 points with 12 three-pointers in a win over Genesis Academy in February. For his prep season, Evans averaged 17 points per game.
