BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as one of its ITA All-Academic Teams for the 2011-12 year. In addition to the team being recognized, Kira Golenko and Tanvi Shah were both named ITA Scholar Athletes.
As a team, the women's tennis squad finished with a GPA of 3.411, the second highest among all the teams at UB. All seven players on the team finished with over a 3.00 GPA this past year.
Golenko was honored for a third straight year by the ITA as she graduated from UB in three years with a 3.909 cumulative GPA. She was a mainstay in the UB lineup this past year playing both in singles and doubles.
Shah picks up the honor for the first time in a UB uniform as she transferred to Buffalo following her freshman year. Shah has a 3.520 GPA and in addition to that led the Bulls in victories this past year playing at the top spot on the lineup. She was named to the All-MAC First Team and was recently regionally ranked by the ITA.
"These accomplishments are an important part of the legacy of continued success for this women's tennis program," said Twist. "We have too much potential to just be great tennis players. We want it all - top grades, MAC Championships and a team that we can call family."
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
