BUFFALO, NY – After leading the University at Buffalo men's basketball team to a pair of important wins last week, senior forward Mitchell Watt was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Sunday.
Watt averaged 21 points and 4.5 rebounds to help lead the Bulls to a pair of wins on the week. Against Akron, he scored a game-high 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting. He added six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.
Against Bowling Green in the regular season finale, he finished with a team-high 20 points. After shrugging of a sluggish start, Watt scored 11 of the Bulls' final 22 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field down the stretch.
Watt's free throw with 2:05 remaining made him the 17th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
Watt's strong finish to the season was the key to Bulls securing the second seed in the upcoming FirstEnergy Mid-American Conference Tournament. Over the final ten games of the regular season, Watt averaged 18 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
This is the first time Watt has ever been named MAC Player of the Week.
The Bulls will next play against a yet-to-be-determined opponent in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament on Friday night at 9:30 pm in Cleveland.
