Bulls Open Play At ITA Northeast Regionals

WEST POINT, NY - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team opened up play at the ITA Northeast Regionals on Friday with a pair of players falling in the singles qualifying round. Buffalo's two doubles teams one opening matches, but fell in the second round
Senior Tamara Markovic dropped her match in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while freshman Gopkia Kapoor was unable to win her match, falling 6-3, 6-4. UB still has one competitor left in singles as junior Tanvi Shah qualified directly for the main draw. Shah is seeded 32nd overall in the tournament and received a bye directly into the Round of 64 where she will face Heini Salonen from Boston College.
Markovic and Kapoor won their opening match 8-5 against a team from Binghamton, before falling to the 16th ranked team in the tournament, 8-3. Shah and junior Miranda Podlas won their opening contest 8-2, but fell in the Round of 32 to a team from Princeton, 8-1.
Competition continues at 8:00 am tomorrow morning.
