Bulls Drop Doubles Thriller In Opening Day Of ITA Regionals

NEW HAVEN, CT - The University at Buffalo women's tennis team competed in the first day of the ITA Regional Championships on Friday, but were unable to advance in doubles play, losing a tight contest in the first round.
UB's team of sophomores Tanvi Shah and Marta Stoyanovea were seeded ninth in the doubles main draw, but lost to Cornell's Ryan Young and Nina Turudic in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (3).
Both Shah and Stoyanova are in the main singles draw, which gets underway tomorrow. Stoyanova will open on tomorrow morning at 9:00 am in the round of 128 as she is matched up against Stony Brook's Prerana Appineni. The winner of that match will face Penn's Augustina Sol Eskenazi at 2:30 pm tomorrow, who received a first-round bye.
Shah is seeded 17th and has received a first-round bye in the main draw. She will play in the round of 64 against the winner of Marina Bykovskaya from Binghamton and Abby Liu from Hartford at 2:30 pm tomorrow.
Play at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships will continue through the weekend and will conclude with singles and doubles finals on Tuesday.
