Women's Tennis Ranked 10th In The Northeast Region

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team has been ranked the 10th team in the Northeast Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday evening. UB's number one doubles team also picked up a regional ranking as senior Denise Harijanto and Aleksandra Petrova have been ranked sixth in the region. The ranking for the team is the first in school history. The Bulls have gotten off to a 3-2 start to the season, defeating teams like St. John's, Cornell and Army along the way. UB lost tough 4-3 matches to Columbia and Syracuse, who was ranked right above UB at ninth.
"This is a tremendous honor to have our entire team recognized as one of the best in the region," said head coach Kathy Twist. "It speaks highly to the character of this team throughout the singles and doubles lineup."
Harijanto and Petrova teamed up prior to the spring season and have been a perfect 8-0 so far this year. The duo is 5-0 in dual matches and won their flight at the Cornell Winter Invitational back in January. Over their last four matches, no team has won more than five games against them.
"It is amazing to see the kind of recognition that Adi and Denise have gotten so soon since they just started playing together this spring," said Twist. "We had a regional ranking at first doubles back in the fall, but I think the move made us a stronger team overall and helped us get this regional team ranking."
The Bulls begin their Spring Break trip in Puerto Rico this week as they face James Madison on Monday.
