
Four Freshmen To Compete at USA Track & Field U20 Championships This Thursday and Friday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program is sending four freshmen student-athletes to the USA Track & Field Under-20 Championships this week at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Aidan Norris, Akuot Kuany, Collin Stafford and Linnea Neureuther will compete this Thursday and Friday, representing the Bulls among collegiate athletes from around the country.
Norris is scheduled to begin the two-day competition for the Bulls, participating in the men's 800-meter preliminary round on Thursday at 7:40 p.m. EST. The freshman had a strong outdoor season, joining the all-time program ranks in the 800-meter and the 1,500-meter. Norris' time of 1:49.50 in the 800-meter rose to fourth all-time in the program's top 10. Should Norris qualify, the 800-meter finals are scheduled for Friday at 8:40 p.m. EST.
Neureuther will be the second student-athlete to represent the Bulls at the U20 championships, competing in the preliminary round of the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. EST. The freshman joined the program's all-time ranks in both the 400-meter hurdles and the triple jump throughout the outdoor season. Neureuther's personal record time of 1:00.31 at MAC Outdoor Championships rose to third in program history and earned a fourth-place finish. The finals of the 400-meter hurdles are scheduled for Friday at 8:20 p.m. EST.
Stafford is scheduled to close out the opening day of competition for the Bulls, participating in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:45 p.m. EST. The freshman shined in the event at MAC Outdoor Championships, earning a second-place finish and a new school record time of 8:55.94.
Kuany is set to compete in the women's high jump, scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday. The Central New York native had a historic freshman campaign for the Bulls in the high jump, rising to fourth on the program's all-time top 10 with an outdoor personal record of 1.78 meters. The freshman then earned a bronze medal at MAC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 1.74 meters. Kuany followed that by being the first female freshman since Kristy Woods in 2009 to compete at NCAA East First Rounds.
