Bulls’ Freshmen Compete Among The Nation’s Best at USA Track & Field U20 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The University at Buffalo track and field program sent four freshmen to the USA Track & Field Under-20 Championships. Aidan Norris, Akuot Kuany, Collin Stafford and Linnea Neureuther represented the Bulls on Thursday and Friday, competing against collegiate athletes from around the country.
Norris competed on both days of the U20 Championships, finishing seventh in the finals of the 800-meter on Friday with a time of 1:51.42. Norris qualified for the finals with a time of 1:50.87 in the preliminary round on Thursday to place eighth. The meet marked the end of a memorable freshman campaign for Norris, who joined the all-time program ranks in the 800-meter (4th, 1:49.50) and the 1,500-meter (9th, 3:50.35).
Kuany competed in the high jump finals on Friday, placing 15th with a mark of 1.66 meters. The freshman had a standout campaign in the event, rising to fourth in the indoor (1.75m) and outdoor (1.78m) all-time program ranks. Kuany also earned a bronze medal at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships and became the first female freshman in program history since Kristy Woods in 2009 to compete at NCAA East First Rounds.
Stafford competed in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday, finishing seventh with a time of 9:17.90. The freshman trailed the first-place finisher by 12 seconds (9:05.40). The U20 Championships closed out a successful freshman campaign for Stafford, who became the Bulls' school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:55.94 at MAC Outdoor Championships, earning a silver medal.
Neureuther competed in the women's 400-meter hurdles on Thursday night. The freshman placed 16th in the event with a time of 1:02.91. The meet marked the end of a strong freshman campaign for Neureuther, who joined the all-time program ranks in the 400-meter hurdles (3rd, 1:00.31) and the triple jump (9th, 12.27m).
