EUGENE, Ore. – Zahra Amos of the University at Buffalo track and field program competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field. Amos became the first woman to represent the Bulls at NCAA Championships since Shante' White in 2013.
The senior placed 19th in the women's high jump, clearing the first bar of 1.74 meters on her first attempt. Amos advanced to the 1.79-meter mark but didn't clear the second height to advance further. The senior earned an All-America honorable mention for her performance, also becoming the first female high jumper to compete for the Bulls at NCAA Championships since Shelly Hamilton in 1998.
"Zahra has left her mark on UB Track and Field," said Program Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "Her character and impact on the program over the past four years has been immeasurable. She has created pride for the University, the athletic department and our program. We are so fortunate to have Zahra and proud of her accomplishments."
Amos' participation at NCAA Outdoor Championships closes out a strong senior season for the Australian native. The senior is now a three-time MAC Champion, one-time MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year, two-time NCAA East First Rounds Qualifier and one-time NCAA Championship qualifier. The senior qualified for NCAA Championships by placing 11th at the NCAA East First Rounds. Amos set a new outdoor personal record of 1.79 meters to qualify, a mark that ranks third all-time in UB outdoor history.
