
Walker Breaks School Record as Bulls Medal in Four Events

ATHENS, OHIO – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at the third and final day of Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Ohio University. The Bulls closed out conference championships by earning medals in four events.
Aiden Walker started day three on a strong note for the Bulls, setting a new school record of 60.48 meters in the men's discus throw to earn a silver medal. Walker surpassed his previous school record of 57.26 meters set earlier in the season at the Geneseo Spring Opener. The junior has now surpassed the previous school record twice this season, breaking Matt Gac's record of 56.39 meters that had stood since 2010.
Rylee VanAlstine, Jack Faldetta, Sam Mellinger and Justin Kleppel continued the Bulls' momentum, posting a season-best time of 41.62 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay to earn a silver medal. The group of Bulls were just shy of the school record for the event (39.88).
Aidan Norris kept the Bulls' streak of medals going, finishing third in the men's 1,500-meter with a new personal record time of 3:50.35. The freshman also joined the all-time UB outdoor leaderboard to rank ninth. Vincent Guaresimo also competed for the Bulls, placing 10th with a time of 3:58.13. Norris also qualified for the 800-meter finals on Friday, then placing eighth on Saturday. The freshman finished the event with a time of 1:55.17.
In the women's high jump, both Akuot Kuany and Stella Kapp tied for third to earn a bronze medal, among three more student-athletes who surpassed a mark of 1.71 meters on their first attempt. Zahra Amos finished 10th, reaching 1.71 meters on her second attempt at the mark. Adriana Ellsworth rounded out the Bulls' competitors, placing 13th with a mark of 1.66 meters.
Ryan Cardichon and Calvin Finger tied in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters to take sixth place. The mark tied Finger's season best. Daniel Richardson also competed for the Bulls, placing 12th with a jump of 1.93 meters.
Kara Moran finished sixth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.31 meters. Linnea Neureuther placed eighth with a new personal record of 12.27 meters. The freshman remained ninth in the all-time UB outdoor rankings.
Neureuther doubled back to place fourth in the 400-meter hurdles finals with a new personal record time of 1:00.31. The freshman's time rose to third on the UB outdoor leaderboard.
On the men's side of the triple jump, Micah Blair placed fourth with a new personal record mark of 14.44 meters. Blair was three-hundredths of a meter shy of reaching the all-time UB outdoor record book (14.47m) and less than two-tenths of a meter shy of the third-place finisher (14.60m).
In the men's 5,000-meter Luke Stoeffler (4th, 14:48.08) and Collin Stafford (5th, 14:51.37) both posted top-five finishes. Stafford's time was a new personal record. Matt Gensel also competed for the Bulls, placing seventh (15:17.99). On the women's side, Rachel Hirschkind finished with a time of 18:58.29 to place 20th.
In the women's discus throw, freshman Maria Akalonu placed ninth with a mark of 44.30 meters. Akalonu's throw was a personal record, falling less than three meters shy of reaching the all-time UB outdoor record book (47.02m).
Bronagh Cassidy placed eighth in the women's 1,500-meter, posting a time of 4:43.12.
Kevin Gabalski finished eighth in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.80. The senior was less than half of a second away from a bronze finish (14.45).
