Bulls To Begin Competition at MAC Outdoor Championships on Thursday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program is headed to Ohio University this week to compete at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships. Conference championships begin on Thursday at 10 am and will continue through Saturday evening.
The Bulls head to MAC Outdoor Championships with several athletes ranking inside the top 10 of their events.
DAY ONE | Thursday, May 15th | 10 a.m.
Kevin Gabalski and Isa van Puffelen are scheduled to open conference championships on Thursday morning with the beginning of the men's decathlon and the women's heptathlon.
Gabalski is expected to begin the men's decathlon at 10:25 am on the opening day of competition. The senior ranks third in the MAC this season with a decathlon score of 6,697, a new personal record performance set at the Texas Relays. Gabalski's new personal best rose the all-time UB outdoor ranks to take the fourth spot in program history. The senior has earned five medals at conference championships, most recently taking silver at MAC Indoor Championships in the men's heptathlon.
van Puffelen enters her second conference championship, placing fifth at MAC Indoor Championships with a score of 3,623 in the women's pentathlon. The freshman starts the action in Athens at 10 am on Thursday. van Puffelen ranks fourth in the event this season, with a personal best performance of 5,020, set at the Bison Outdoor Classic. The freshman's record joined the program ranks to sit at sixth all-time.
Kenneth Gulloso is scheduled to compete in the men's hammer throw on Thursday at 11 am. The hammer throw will have both trials and finals on Thursday. Gulloso rose the program ranks to seventh with a throw of 55.09 meters at the Ohio State Jesse Owens Classic. The junior ranks eighth in the conference this season heading into outdoor championships.
The Bulls have a strong duo in the women's 400-meter hurdles, with both Linnea Neureuther and Gemma Galligani ranking inside the top 10 of the conference. The two underclassmen will compete in the event trials on Thursday, with the finals to follow on Saturday. The duo set new personal best performances at the Jesse Owens Classic, with Neureuther's time of 1:01.14 ranking fifth in program history and Galligani's time of 1:02.30 taking 10th.
Matt Gensel is expected to compete in the men's 10,000-meter, one of the final events for day one. Gensel ranks third in the conference, headed into outdoor championships with a time of 29:49.34. The junior's time was a new personal record set at the Raleigh Relays, which ranks fourth in UB outdoor history.
DAY TWO | Friday, May 16th | 11 a.m.
Kara Moran will compete in the women's long jump on day two of conference championships, with the trials and finals set to begin at 1 pm. Moran sits at fifth in the MAC rankings for the event with a personal best mark of 5.95 meters. The sophomore set her record at the UB Alumni Invitational, rising to sixth on the program's all-time list.
Aidan Norris is scheduled to compete in the men's 800-meter trials on day two at 6 pm. Those who qualify for the finals will compete in the finals on Saturday at 2:50 pm. Norris enjoyed a record-setting freshman campaign, breaking the outdoor freshman record for the event and joining the all-time ranks to take fourth in program history with a time of 3:51.03. Norris' time ranks third in the conference.
One of the Bulls' strongest events of the outdoor season was the 3,000-meter steeplechase, set to close out Friday's events at 6:35 pm. Luke Stoeffler set a new school record in the event for the Bulls, ranking fourth in the conference with a time of 8:58.22. On the women's side, Rachel Hirschkind and Eliza Medearis rank inside the top 10 in the MAC. Hirschkind's personal record of 10:47.01 set at the Bison Outdoor Classic sits at third in the conference and fourth in the Bulls' all-time ranks. Medearis ranks ninth in the conference with a personal best of 10:57.89 and seventh in the all-time program ranks.
DAY THREE | Saturday, May 17th | 12:30 p.m.
Aiden Walker will open the third day of conference championships, competing in the men's discus throw. Walker set a new school record in the event with a mark of 57.26 meters at the Geneseo Spring Opener. The junior's mark ranks atop the MAC ahead of outdoor championships.
Moran and Neureuther also rank inside the top 10 in the women's triple jump, with both expected to be competing in the event on Saturday at 12:30 pm. Moran ranks fifth in the conference and fifth in UB outdoor history with her new personal record of 12.47 meters, set just a few weeks ago at the UCF Knight Invite. Neureuther sits in sixth in the MAC rankings and ninth in UB outdoor history with a mark of 12.23 meters, set at the UB Alumni Invite.
The Bulls' high jumpers have had an outdoor season to remember. Heading into conference championships, the Buffalo women rank third in the country in the event squad rankings, only trailing Nebraska and Texas Tech. Zahra Amos and Akuot Kuany sit atop the conference, tied with an outdoor personal best mark of 1.78 meters to rank third in program history. Amos is also the defending MAC Indoor and Outdoor Champion. Stella Kapp is third on the Bulls' roster, with an outdoor personal best of 1.73 meters to rank seventh in UB outdoor history. Adriana Ellsworth rounds out the Buffalo competitors at outdoor championships, setting her personal record mark of 1.71 meters at the Richmond Invite to take the eighth spot in program history.
