Wilson’s Big Night Not Enough for Bulls to get by Chippewas

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team fell to the Central Michigan Chippewas on Tuesday evening at McGuirk Arena, 73-69.
Bryson Wilson had a career game against the Chippewas. Wilson scored 16 first half points to tie his previous career high against Ball State but finished with 22. On the night he was 6-for-13 from the floor, including 2 threes and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. He added 2 assists, 2 steals and a block. Ryan Sabol scored 11 points as Anquan Boldin Jr. finished with 10 points.
The Chippewas entered the game as one of the best rebounding teams in the MAC, but the Bulls had the edge outrebounding Central Michigan, 38-35. Unfortunately, The Chippewas capitalized on second chance points as they edged Buffalo, 17-11.
The Bulls threw the first punch of the contest as they got out to a 4-0 lead. The Chippewas didn't stay down long as they took a 5-4 lead with 17:32 to go in the first. The teams punched back and forth throughout the half as there were 8 lead changed and 5 ties. A pair of Wilson free throws gave Buffalo a 25-24 lead with 6:25 to go in the half. The Bulls never lost the lead as they headed to the locker room with a 38-34 lead. Boldin Jr. hit a corner three to extend Buffalo's lead to 4 before the halftime horn.
The Bulls held their lead until the Chippewas tied the game at 52 apiece with 8:22 to go. In their next possession, Central Michigan took the lead at 54-52. Buffalo answered back with a Sabol three-pointer but couldn't hold on. The Chippewas regained the lead after a three and never looked back. The Bulls tried crawling back, but Central Michigan closed the game out by making 6 of their last 7 baskets from the floor to ice the game.
The Bulls are back in action at home on Saturday against Toledo. Tip-off is set for 4:30 p.m. on ESPN+ following the women's game at 2 p.m. against Eastern Michigan as they honor Kourtney Brown into the Alumni Arena Wall of Fame.
