
Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Houghton With 12 Event Wins

HOUGHTON, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program began the indoor season on Friday evening at Houghton University's December Classic. The Bulls posted 12 event wins in the meet, with two performances joining the program's all-time indoor record book.
JUMPS
Linnea Neureuther headlined the day for the Bulls, winning the women's triple jump and joining the all-time indoor ranks with a mark of 12.02 meters. The sophomore took the ninth spot in program history with the performance. Kara Moran earned second with a mark of 11.89 meters. Amari Hall secured third to give the Bulls the top three spots (11.48m).
Freshman Nicalis Williams made his mark on program history in his debut with the Bulls. Williams placed second in the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.71 meters, taking the eighth spot in indoor program history. Mitch Diamond placed fifth in the event with a mark of 14.29 meters.
Stella Kapp won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.75 meters, tying her indoor personal best that ranks fourth in UB indoor history. Adriana Ellsworth took second, only to Kapp, posting a mark of 1.64 meters.
On the men's side of the high jump, Tyler Norton posted a new indoor personal record with a mark of 1.97 meters to place second. Daniel Richardson also finished inside the top five with a mark of 1.83 meters.
The Bulls earned three of the top five spots in the women's long jump. Moran finished second (5.63m), with Uma Bhattacharjee taking third (5.59m) and Krista Perry finishing fifth (5.12m).
SPRINTS
Neureuther also won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.98. The sophomore took first place in the preliminary round of the event too (8.97). Krista Perry earned second place in both the finals (8.99) and the preliminary round (9.19). On the men's side, David Hemraj placed second in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.52. The freshman also took second in the preliminary round with a time of 8.60.
Jayne Williams won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.68. Sina Ehrhardt (2nd, 1:01.08) and Amelie-Johanna Fraeger (4th, 1:01.57) also posted top five finishes. Lindy Betrus placed seventh (1:03.57) to put a fourth Buffalo sprinter inside the top 10.
Williams doubled back to win the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 26.19. The sophomore fell just shy of the program's all-time indoor top 10 (25.12). Jones (2nd, 26.85), Fraeger (3rd, 26.87) and Ehrhardt (5th, 26.99) all posted top five placements too.
Freshman Keoni Chong won the men's 400-meter with a time of 49.75. Freshman Malachi Taylor trailed to take second with a time of 50.05. The pair of freshmen nearly reached the program's all-time indoor top 10 (48.88). Kala'i Leahey-Makanani also posted a top 10 finish (51.40).
Taylor also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.20 seconds. The freshman fell just shy of the program's all-time top 10 in his debut with the Bulls (21.77). Leahey-Makanani finished fifth in the event with a time of 22.53. Chong also posted a top ten placement in the event (7th, 22.67).
Bhattacharjee placed second in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a new personal record time of 7.77. The junior's new personal best fell just shy of the UB indoor record book (7.73). Bhattacharjee qualified for the finals with a time of 7.82. Alexia Jones also competed in the finals for the Bulls, taking fourth with a time of 8.04.
On the men's side of the 60-meter dash, Diamond placed fifth overall (7.00). The junior was less than a tenth of a second shy of reaching the program's indoor record book (6.91). Diamond qualified for the finals with a sixth-place finish in the preliminary round (7.04).
The Bulls closed out the night by winning the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.33. Michael Huebner, Xavier Gordon, Kevin Sherry, and Nicholas Morgan took first place among 10 teams.
DISTANCE
Huebner won the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:54.52. Huebner's time fell just shy of the program's all-time top 10 in his debut with the Bulls (1:52.76). Gordon (3rd, 1:56.64) and Morgan (4th, 1:58.41) also posted top five placements.
In the women's mile, the Bulls took the top five spots. Meghana Reddy won the event with a personal record time of 5:11.86. The sophomore's time was just over ten seconds shy of reaching the UB indoor record book (5:00.24). Fiona Klingbeil trailed to take second (5:19.15), with Reese Wilber in third (5:20.41), Lexi Bernard taking fourth (5:21.83) and Sophie Brettholtz finishing fifth (5:22.53).
Connor Domoy won the men's 3,000-meter in a field of 21 runners with a time of 9:03.80. On the women's side of the 3,000-meter, Leslie Villafuerte Castro placed second with a time of 10:57.01. The junior's second-place finish came in a field of 16 runners.
THROWS
Bernice Balk won the women's shot put with a throw of 12.89 meters. Balk was just shy of her personal best in the performance (12.93m). On the men's side, Dominic Weatherly (2nd, 15.16m) and Aiden Walker (3rd, 15.00m) earned top three finishes in the men's shot put.
Loretta White secured another win for the Bulls with the women's weight throw. The junior's mark of 16.03 meters earned first place in the field of 31 competitors. Balk also competed, placing 11th (12.59m).
On the men's side of the weight throw, Kenneth Gulloso placed second with a mark of 16.03 meters in a field of 25 throwers. Julian Vitucci placed fourth with a mark of 14.74 meters. Weatherly (9th, 13.52m) and Walker (11th, 12.95m) also competed for the Bulls.
