Bulls Fall to Bryant
11/14/2024 11:02:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BUFFALO, N.Y. –The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Bryant Bulldogs (2-1, 0-0 AE) on Thursday evening, 87-64.
On the night, Ryan Sabol led all scorers with 17 points as he knocked down 3 three-pointers. Tyson Dunn added 12 points. In his first collegiate action, Omar Migues-Hibeljic scored 5 points. Noah Batchelor led the Bulls with 6 rebounds and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Defensively, Ben Michaels, Anquan Boldin Jr., Frederiks Meinarts and Dunn had one block each.
The Bulls had double the turnovers of the Bulldogs, 16-8. On the night, Bryant outscored Buffalo, 24-1 in points off turnovers.
The Bulldogs got off to an 18-0 start to the game and the Bulls couldn't muster any momentum to cut into the lead. The Bulls started the game 0-for-9 from the floor before Sabol made a layup at the 14:06 mark. It was a tough uphill battle as the Bulldogs led 50-25 at the half. Buffalo outscored the opposition in the second half, 39-37.
"We played a really veteran and physical Bryant team, who came in here confidently," stated Head Coach George Halcovage III. "We knew that they were going to come in and try to set the tone with their pace tonight. They made some shots and really got hot, and I don't think we responded well to them hitting us first. We talked about making the first connecting punch tonight in this game, and we didn't, then we got back on our heels, and it was a little too late. They got up 18-0 to start the game, and then we were just trying to fight back the entire game. Just one of those games where our little bit of inexperience, not understanding about setting the tone and getting off to great starts got us. We have to understand that if we're not making shots to start games that we need to do it on the defensive end. In the games we started well this year, we started well offensively. We have to learn that no matter if we're making or missing shots, our defensive energy has to be an all-time high. We're going to learn that from tonight."
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday at Vermont (1-2, 0-0 AE). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
