Men’s Basketball Adds Syracuse Transfer JJ Starling to the 2026-27 Roster

BUFFALO, N.Y. – University at Buffalo men's basketball Head Coach George Halcovage III announced the signing of guard JJ Starling to the roster for the 2026-27 season.
Starling, a former McDonald's All-American, joins Buffalo after spending the last three seasons down the I-90 at Syracuse. With his time with the Orange, he appeared in 88 games where he averaged 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Starling scored a career-high 38 points as he went 14-for-23 from the floor against Youngstown State in his junior season. Last season he recorded four 20-point games against North Carolina (22), Notre Dame (21), California (21) and Stonehill (20). In total, the former five-star recruit has 21 20-point performances, 10 of which came in the 2024-25 season where he averaged 17.8 points per game. Prior to Syracuse, he spent the 2022-23 season at Notre Dame where the 6'4" guard played in 28 games averaging 11.8 points per game. In his collegiate career, he has scored 1,530 points.
In high school, Starling earned 2022 McDonald's All-America honors. He was the 2021-22 MaxPreps Indiana Player of the Year as well as a MaxPreps Honorable Mention All-American. The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native was ranked nationally by ESPN (27th), 247Sports (33rd) and Rivals (40th).
