Bulls Travel to the Green Mountain State to Battle the Vermont Catamounts

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 MAC) will travel to the Green Mountain State to play the Vermont Catamounts (1-3, 0-0 AE) for their first meeting since 2009 on Tuesday evening. The action can be seen on ESPN+ with tip-off at 7 p.m. Josh Whetzel can be heard on the Varsity Network or on the radio on Buffalo 1520/Rochester 1280.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls are coming off a loss to the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday evening. Freshman Omar Migues-Hibeljic saw his first collegiate action on Thursday. He scored 5 points as he went 2-for-2 from the floor. Ryan Sabol led all players with 17 points as he knocked down 3 three-pointers. Tyson Dunn added 12 points. Noah Batchelor led the team with 6 rebounds and 3 assists on the night. Ben Michaels, Frederiks Meinarts, Anquan Boldin Jr. and Dunn each had 1 block.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This will be the fifth meeting between the Bulls and Catamounts as the foe lead the series, 3-1. It has been almost a decade since Buffalo and Vermont have played each other. The last time the Bulls visited the Catamounts was on Feb. 21, 2009, as part of the ESPNU Bracket Buster. The series between Buffalo and Vermont dates back to the 1961-62 season when they played each other at the Springfield Tournament in Springfield, Mass. The Catamounts won, 66-58.
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
Sabol has made a team-high 16 three-pointers on the season that ranks him 13th in the country and good for the top spot in the MAC. His 4.00 three-pointers per game is 12th in the country and first in the MAC.
Dunn's 34 total assists is fourth in the country behind Pacific's Lamar Washington (41), Braden Smith from Purdue (38) and Tan Yildizoglu from VMI (38). His 8.5 assists per game is seventh in all of college basketball.
Dunn is the only player in Division I to record a triple-double on the season.
The Bulls hold the top spot in the MAC in fastbreak points with 14.00 per game.
The Bulls are showing off their depth off the bench as they're averaging 26.50 points per game off the bench. This is good for third in the MAC.
Buffalo has made at least 10 threes in three of their four games on the season. Their 9.3 three-pointers per game is 104th in the country and fourth amongst MAC programs.
Buffalo is tied with Ball State for the most defensive rebounds per game in the conference with 28.25.

The last time Buffalo defeated a team from the America East was on Dec. 30, 2017, when they hosted the Maine Black Bears. The Bulls won, 79-60.
Over the last 10 seasons, the Catamounts are 134-20 (.870) at home. In nine of those seasons, they had at least 12 home wins. The one season they did not have at least 12 home wins came in the 2020- 21 COVID shortened season. In the 10-year span, they had four seasons with at least 16 wins in Roy L. Patrick Gymnasium.
The Bulls are 1-3 all-time in The Green Mountain State. Their first game in Vermont came on March 6, 1959, against St. Michael's in the NCAA Division II Tournament in Burlington, Vt. where St. Micheal's won, 53-51. Their lone win in Vermont came the next day against Williams in a consolation game, 78-53.
The Bulls are 2-6 in games played on Nov. 19th in the program's history. Buffalo's last win on this date came on the road at Navy in 2009 with a 63-53 decision.
