Bulls Continue MAC Play This Week

BUFFALO, NY β Β The University at Buffalo women's soccer team will continue Mid-American Conference action this week as they host Toledo on Thursday at UB Stadium before traveling to Bowling Green for a clash with the Falcons on Sunday afternoon.

It will be the 30th meeting between Buffalo and Toledo with the Bulls holding a 15-12-2 series advantage. The Bulls have won five of the last six meetings with the Rockets, most recently a 3-0 win at UB Stadium last season.
On Sunday, it will be the 32nd meeting between Buffalo and Bowling Green with the Falcons owning an 18-10-3 advantage. The Bulls and Falcons played to scoreless draws in their last two meetings.
Buffalo had their chances but eventually came up empty as they played to a scoreless draw at Ball State on Sunday. UB outshot the Cardinals 19-11 on the day, while the teams were even in shots on goal and corner kick opportunities. Sophomore Lexie Thompson finished with six saves in her eighth shutout of the season.
The Bulls are balanced offensively, with 17 goals scored off the feet of 10 different players, led by senior forward Jasmine Guerber who has four goals while three other Bulls have recorded a pair of goals. Thompson has led the Bulls between the pipes, compiling an 8-1-3 overall record while recording eight shutouts a .33 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. Thompson leads the MAC and ranks in the top five nationally in those three categories. She was named MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
As a team, the Bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the MAC as they lead the league and rank in the top 15 nationally in goals against average (.333) save percentage (.925) and shutout percentage (.667). They also rank in the top four in the league in corner kicks per game (5.4), shots per game (14.2), shots on goal per game (6.4) and goal differential (13).
Toledo enters Thursday's match with a 4-5-3 overall record and 1-2-2 league mark after playing to a 1-1 draw with Central Michigan last week. The Rockets are balanced offensively with four different players recording two goals each. Between the pipes, Toledo is led by Agnes Stenlund who has made 46 saves and owns a 0.92 goals against average and a .807 save percentage in 12 starts. As a team, Toledo has allowed three goals or fewer across its first five conference contests. Offensively, eight of the Rockets' 12 goals this season have been scored in the second half.
Bowling Green enters the week with a 6-3-2 overall record and 3-1-1 in league play after defeating Northern Illinois over the weekend. Graduate student Lexi Czerwien leads the Falcons offensively with four goals while sophomore forward Emma Stransky has added three goals. In net, Bowling Green is led by Madison Vukas who has made 33 saves and owns a 0.805 save percentage and a .89 goals against average in nine starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will welcome Kent State to UB Stadium on Thursday, October 17 at 6pm.
