
Buffalo Posts a Combined 3.169 GPA for Fall Semester

BUFFALO, NY – It was another successful semester in the classroom for UB student-athletes as they posted a 3.169 grade point average for the fall semester. It was the sixth highest GPA in department history.
Women's tennis claimed the top spot for the fall semester with a 3.681 team grade point average. Men's cross country led all men's teams with a 3.413 GPA. Men's basketball posted their highest grade point average in program history with a 3.021.
Men's basketball also had the most improved semester from the spring, increasing their GPA by 0.308 points, followed by wrestling (+0.243) and softball (+0.133).
Overall, 12 teams had a 3.0 grade point average or better – women's tennis (3.681), swimming and diving (3.646), soccer (3.592), volleyball (3.575), men's cross country (3.413), men's tennis (3.390), women's cross country (3.286), men's track and field (3.242), softball (3.228), women's track and field (3.217), men's basketball (3.021) and wrestling (3.015).
The department had 46 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs and 158 posted a 3.5 or better. In all, 248 student-athletes (68 percent) reached the 3.0 plateau.
"We are thrilled to once again celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of our UB student-athletes during the Fall 23 semester," Associate Athletic Director for Academic Affairs Aaron Stang said. "With an impressive 65 percent earning a 3.0 GPA and 46 achieving a perfect 4.0, their dedication to excellence extends beyond the field to the classroom. These remarkable accomplishments are a direct result of the hard work we witness them put in on a daily basis. A heartfelt thank you goes to our exceptional academic support staff and coaches, whose pivotal roles have not only nurtured athletic prowess but also instilled a commitment to academic success in our student-athletes. Together, we take pride in showcasing the true embodiment of the student-athlete experience at UB through these impressive achievements."
