Sheeren’s Run Ends on Day Two of Ken Kraft Midlands

EVANSTON, IL – Eli Sheeren dropped an 8-4 decision to 10th-seed Michael Batista of Virginia on Friday in the consolation bracket of the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. It brought an end to his strong first trip to Midlands.
Sheeren finished the tournament with a record of 3-2. His two losses were to nationally ranked wrestlers.
Along with Sheeren, three other Bulls competed at Midlands. Matt Ryan (141), Sam Mitchell (197) and Greg Hodulicke (285) also competed but were eliminated on Thursday.
Ryan dropped his first match to 8th-seed Carmen Ferrante of Penn, 5-1. After earning a win by forfeit over Indiana's Cayden Rooks, Ryan dropped a close 8-7 decision to Harvard's Kenny Herman.
Mitchell won his first match of the day with an 8-6 decision over George Mason's Jon List. He followed by dropping a close 4-3 decision to 10th-seed Michael Batista of Virginia. In the consolation bracket, Mitchell dropped a 6-4 decision to Illinois' Joseph Braunagel.
At 285, Greg Hodulick opened his day by dropping a 3-0 decision to SIUE's Colton McKiernen – the sixth seed. He bounced back in his first match of the consolation bracket, upsetting 11th-seed Jake Slinger of Pittsburgh, 6-4. Unfortunately, he dropped his next bout, 4-1, to Missouri's Ryan Boersma.
