
Bulls Drop 4-3 Contest To Bowling Green

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team had its three-match winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon as the Bulls fell to the Falcons, 4-3.
In doubles action, the Falcons won matches at second and third doubles to take the point. Buffalo did win at first doubles as Pia Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou took the match, 6-3.
Singles action was tight throughout, but the Falcons took the match at first singles as Buffalo was forced to retire following the opening set. UB got on the board at third singles as junior Hsin-Yuan Shih won easily, 6-1, 6-0. A Bowling Green win at fifth singles put the Falcons ahead 3-1, but the Bulls then won at fourth singles courtesy of sophomore Ambre Amat, who won 6-2, 7-5. Amat trailed 5-2 in the second before winning the final five games.
The Falcons clinched the match at sixth singles, but the Bulls picked up a victory in the final contest of the afternoon as senior Gabriella Akopyan won in three sets. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-5, Akopyan won the second set 6-4 and then went into a tiebreaker in the third, which she took, 7-3.
The Bulls return to action on Sunday when they travel to league-leading Ball State.
