
Late Rally Falls Short Against Western Michigan

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team put forth a late charge on Friday afternoon against Western Michigan, but the Bulls fell just short against the 12-1 Broncos, as UB lost, 4-3.
The Broncos took the doubles point with victories at two and three, but it was the Bulls who got the first victory of the day as the number one doubles team of Pia Schwarz and Ambre Amat won 6-4.
In singles action, Western Michigan took matches at four and three singles, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead in the match, but UB broke the shutout at fifth singles as sophomore Azra Deniz Comlek scored a straight sets win over Maya Perkucin, 6-2, 6-4. The Broncos clinched the match with a win at two, but the Bulls had one last push in them, taking the final two matches to a third set.
Schwarz won the opening set at first singles 7-5, before dropping a 6-2 decision in the second. She went to a third set tiebreaker with Femke Tojn-a-Joe and both players had their opportunities with Schwarz pulling through with the 13-11 win. At sixth singles, Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou lost her first 7-5, but she then won the second set 7-5 to force a third set tiebreaker, which Karademitrou won 10-8.
The Bulls return to action on Sunday when they host Eastern Michigan at 11am.
