ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team picked up their second straight win as they shut out the Ohio Bobcats, 2-0, at Chessa Field on Sunday afternoon.
With the win the Bulls improve to 6-6-1, 3-3 in MAC play, while the Bobcats fall to 7-6-1, 2-3-1 in league play.
For the second straight game the Bulls would strike first as Marcy Barberic flew up the right side and played a ball through to Taylor Caridi who passed it off to Katherine Camper who drilled the ball into the top right corner of the net for her second goal of the season to give UB a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Buffalo would add to their lead in the 28th minute as Barberic fired a shot on net that was saved by Sydney Malham but Annie Judasz was right there for the rebound and banged the one-timer in the back of the net for her second goal of the season to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats came out aggressive to start the second half as they had two great looks from inside the box in the first ten minutes of the half but Emily Kelly stood tall making a pair of saves from point blank range to keep Ohio off the board.
The Bulls had a great chance to add to their lead as Mairead Martin ripped one from just inside the box that sailed just high over the cross bar. The Bulls defense worked hard for the remainder of the second half to preserve its fourth clean sheet of the season.
In net, Kelly made seven saves for the Bulls in her third shutout of the season, while Malham made six stops for Ohio. Senior Carley Zoccali was named Player of the Match by the UB coaches for her efforts in the win.
"I'm really pleased with the effort, energy and discipline, especially in the second half with the pressure that Ohio put on us," said head coach Shawn Burke. "To go on the road and to get a shutout speaks volumes about what this group can do defensively."
The Bulls return to UB Stadium for the final homestand of the regular season beginning with a match against Northern Illinois on Friday, October 18, at 7pm.
