BUFFALO, NY – Head softball coach Jen Teague has received National Letters of Intent from two stand-out student-athletes during the early signing period for the 2011-2012 academic year. Current high school seniors Alexis Curtiss (San Diego, CA/University City HS) and Cheyanne Knepper (Madison, TN/ Goodpasture Christian HS) will be joining the Bulls next fall.
" This class is a small but explosive," said Teague. "We obviously have chosen to work on the strength of our battery. We feel like we have brought in two quality athletes that fit in with our philosophies here at Buffalo and that can flat out play ball."
Alexis Curtiss- Catcher/3B
Curtiss, a tri-varsity athlete since freshman year at University City HS in field hockey, soccer, and softball, will be joining the Bulls in the catching position. The well-rounded athlete has made all-league and all-division in all three sports. She also was an All-Star baseball player.
Curtiss' high school softball accolades include: 2009 CIF D3 player of the year and Western League player of the year, 2 consecutive CIF softball championships, and 2010-2011 female athlete of the year.
Alexis will bring the UB program lots of talent, leadership ability and smiles. Curtiss continues to play for the San Diego Renegades Gold.
"Alexis is a natural leader," said Teague. "I could immediately tell that she had a baseball background by the way she takes control of the defense and her pitching staff. She is very comfortable calling pitches and knowing batters. We look forward developing and applying her knowledge to the college game and college hitters. Alexis is obviously a great hitter as well. We really think we got the whole package in Alexis."
Cheyanne Knepper- Pitcher
Knepper, a 3-yr starting pitcher and 5-yr participant for the Goodpasture Varsity Softball team, has a current combined 4-yr ERA of 0.78 and looking forward to a great senior season.
Knepper's high school softball accolades include: 2009 MTSCA 1st Team, All District, All-State in Tennessee, Soddy Daisy Lady Trojan Classic Champion, 4-yr defending District 8AA Champions (2007-2010), 3-time Region 4AA Champions (2007-2009), 2-time Class AA State Champion 200-2008, and 2009 Class AA State Runner Up. Cheyanne was designated District 8AA 2010 MVP her junior year.
Knepper plays for the New Jersey Inferno Gold.
Cheyanne is in a great position to come in and contribute right way in the fall of 2011," said Teague. "She is one of the top pitchers coming out of Tennessee in the 2011 class and knows how to win. She is already a multiple champion. She is a finesse pitcher that will do well in the Mid-American Conference. We look forward to her progress as she transitions to the college game. Chey is excited to wear the Blue and White and we are excited to have her onboard."
