Volleyball Travels Down the I-90 for the Syracuse Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (6-3, 0-0 MAC) will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. for the Syracuse Invitational for two matches this weekend. On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Bulls will face the FDU Knights (2-9, 0-0 NEC) on ESPN+. They will then play the Syracuse Orange (4-3, 0-0 ACC) on Sunday at 1 p.m. with coverage on ACCNX. This will mark their final non-conference matches of the season as they will start Mid-American Conference play against Kent State and Toledo next week.
Last weekend at the Queens Fall Invitational, the Bulls went 1-2 with their lone win coming against Chattanooga in a sweep. Sydney Bell led the Bulls on offense with 31 kills and a .276 hitting percentage last weekend. Abisola Adebayo led the Bulls with 12 total blocks last weekend, averaging 1.20 blocks per set. Over the last six matches, she's averaging 1.14 blocks per game. Maddie Mitchell recorded three double-doubles at the Queens Fall Classic as she averaged 10.40 assists and 4.20 digs per set.
The FDU Knights are 2-9 on the year with wins over NJIT and Iona. Mila Samardzija leads the Knights with 2.57 kills and 3.04 points per set. Angela Marchetto has been terrific at the net as she's recorded 51.0 blocks, good for 1.46 per set and 21st in the country.
The Syracuse Orange are 4-3 on the season with victories over Howard, UAlbany, Cornell and Canisius. Kiernan Stamey leads their offense with 3.38 kills and 3.88 points per set. Yuka Urano has 11 aces and 3.33 digs per set for the Orange. Abby Nicholson is averaging 1.04 blocks per set.
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
• In their Division I era, since 1991, the Bulls are 4-19 against Syracuse. Their last win over the Orange was on Sept. 19, 2012, in a sweep. This will be Buffalo's first time against FDU.
• Buffalo is 6-36 (.143) all-time against ACC opponents. They've lost their last seven matches against ACC teams. Their wins have come against Syracuse (4), Boston College (1) and North Carolina State (1).
• Manoela Forlin needs 52 kills to reach 1,000 kills in her career. She is also 12.0 points away from reaching seventh on the all-time scoring list in program history with 1,095.0 points.
• After their three-match homestand for the Buffalo/Canisius Invitational, the Bulls will be away from the friendly confines of Broadview Arena for a while. 14 of their next 17 matches will be out of town, including a stretch of 9 of 10 conference matches on the road.
• Buffalo's 2026 roster features nine returners, including four rotational starters, eight newcomers in five freshmen and three transfers.
• Buffalo is 3-0 at home in 2026, last year they tallied just four home wins.
