Bulls Sweep FDU on Saturday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (7-3, 0-0 MAC) swept the FDU Knights (2-11, 0-0 NEC) on Saturday afternoon, 25-18, 25-22, 25-22.
Manoela Forlin led Buffalo's offensive attack with 15 kills. Hailey Campagna added eight kills. Maddie Mitchell tallied her 19th career double-double with 32 assists and 15 digs. She has now recorded four straight double-doubles.
Defensively, Anaya Cole added a career-high 19 digs. Sydney Bell and Tehya Shaw each had four blocks.
The Bulls were aggressive off the serve as they finished with seven aces to FDU's three. Over the last two matches, the Bulls have tallied 15 aces over six sets played.
SET 1 | The Bulls and Knights traded points, but once the Bulls took a 7-6 lead, they never looked back. This was in part due to a nice 5-0 run with Mitchell on the serve. At the media timeout, the Bulls led 15-9. It was practically even the rest of the set as the Bulls won, 25-18. Buffalo held FDU to a .065 hitting percentage.
SET 2 | The second set had 13 ties and nine lead changes. FDU led 14-10, but a 7-2 run by Buffalo forced a timeout as the Bulls had their first lead since 8-7. Buffalo squeaked out a 25-22 win. Forlin had seven kills in the set as she hit .385.
SET 3 | Tied at 9, the Bulls rattled off a 4-0 run as Angelina Siepierski had two aces to take a 13-9 lead. With the Knights trailing, they went on a 10-4 run to take a 19-17 lead. This was their largest lead the rest of the afternoon. The Bulls went up 22-20, but FDU tied the set at 22. Buffalo closed the match out with a 3-0 run for a 25-22 win.
"I was very happy with the mindset we brought into the match today," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "We were ready for FDU's defense and blocking and stressed the importance of trusting our transition game. We stayed consistent with our effort from the start and when we locked in on our game plan, we were able to open up leads and finish each set, and ultimately the match."
The Bulls will stay in Syracuse as they'll face the Orange tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they'll close their non-conference slate.
