CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (6-3, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Chattanooga Mocs (4-5, 0-0 SoCon) in the final match of the Queens Fall Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Manoela Forlin led Buffalo's offensive attack with 15 kills. Abbie Willis added nine kills and seven digs. Sydney Bell was very efficient on the attack with a .438 hitting percentage as she finished with eight kills on 16 attempts. Maddie Mitchell tallied her 18th career double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs.
The Bulls were aggressive off the serve as they finished with eight aces to Chattanooga's two.
SET 1 | Buffalo never trailed in the opening set as they limited the Mocs to a .077 hitting percentage. Leading 10-7, the Bulls went on a 9-0 run to take a 19-7 lead. Chattanooga crept back in the set, but they couldn't handle the Bulls as they won, 25-17.
SET 2 | It was a tighter set than the first where the Mocs held a 6-3 lead. Trailing 14-11, the Bulls rattled of another 9-0 run to take a 20-14 lead. Chattanooga chipped at Buffalo's lead, but the Bulls pulled away to win, 25-22.
SET 3 | After leading 4-0, Chattanooga outscored the Bulls 8-3 to take an 8-7 lead. Another small run by the Bulls surged them to a 14-10 lead. After trading points, the Bulls led 24-18, but the Mocs fought off match point on three straight points. The Bulls managed to win the set and match, 25-21.
"In our first two matches I didn't feel like we brought enough pressure from the service line and strayed from our aggressive attacking mentality," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "Against Chattanooga we reset and focused on those two points specifically, as well as being more engaged defensively. I hope we take these lessons learned into our next weekend and keep making forward progress."
The Bulls will stay on the road as they'll face FDU and Syracuse next weekend.
