Volleyball Set to Host Buffalo/Canisius Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (2-1, 0-0 MAC) will co-host the Buffalo/Canisius Invitational presented by UB Dental this week. The Bulls will begin the Invitational against the Canisius Golden Griffins on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Broadview Arena. They will then host the UMBC Retrievers on Friday at 6 p.m. with the weekend wrapping up against the Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Bulls are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Billiken Invitational hosted by Saint Louis. Buffalo picked up a five-set win over the UIC Flames in their season opener. Freshman Angelina Siepierski led the attack with 15 kills and a .345 hitting percentage in her collegiate debut. Senior Manoela Forlin added 14 kills for the Bulls. Sydney Bell had 11 kills and four blocks as Hailey Campagna rounded out the top attackers with 10 kills. Ava Kanj tied a career-high with six total blocks. Maddie Mitchell recorded her 14th career double-double with a match-high 42 assists and 13 digs.
The Bulls dropped their next match to the Saint Louis Billikens in four sets where Campagna led the team with a career-high 16 kills. Defensively, Anaya Cole led the team with 12 digs.
UB rebounded back to the win column with a four-set win over the Lindenwood Lions two close the weekend. After dropping the first set, they charged back winning the next three. Forlin recorded her 11th career double-double with a match-high 16 kills and 12 digs. She also added two aces and a block. Bell and Campagna each added 10 kills with Cole finishing the day off with a match-high 15 digs.
Canisius enters the week with a 0-3 record as they lost to Duquesne, Mercyhurst and Youngtown State at the YSU Invitational. Emma Isroff leads the Golden Griffins with 2.82 kills per set to go with her .358 hitting percentage. Kenslie Warmbrodt has five aces for 0.45 aces per set. Brenda Reynaga leads the way with 4.00 digs per set for Canisius.
The UMBC Retrievers are the reigning America East Tournament Champions. In the NCAA Tournament last season, they fell to No. 4 Pitt in the First Round. They began their season with wins over UTRGV and a five-set win over West Virginia at the Country Roads Challenge in Morgantown, W.Va. Hannah Dobbs leads their offensive attack with 3.38 kills and 4.31 points per set. Alissa Grant has a total of 16 blocks through two matches.
Dartmouth will open up their 2026 campaign on Friday at Canisius before playing the Bulls on Saturday at 2 p.m. Last season the Big Green finished 7-17 overall and 4-10 in the Ivy League.

THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
- Head Coach Scott Smith enters his eighth season at the helm for the Bulls in 2026. In his career, he holds a 99-110 (.474) overall record. Smith one win shy of reaching 100 wins at Buffalo. Only Robert Maxwell has more Division I wins in program history with 131 from 1991-1998.
- The Bulls have two of the top attackers in the MAC in Manoela Forlin and Hailey Campagna. Forlin is sixth in the league with 3.36 kills per set as Campagna is seventh with 3.27 kills per set.
- Maddie Mitchell's 109 total assists on the year are 46th in all of college volleyball and second in the MAC.
- Buffalo's 428 total team attacks rank second in the MAC and 47th in the NCAA.
- The Bulls have the most international players of any roster in the Mid-American Conference this season with five. Manoela Forlin (Curitiba, Brazil) returns for her senior season as Canadian National Player Sydney Bell (Orleans, Ontario) is back for her sophomore campaign. The Bulls added Michal Benaim (Ness Ziona, Israel), Nienke Trossel (Utrecht, Ntherlands) and Anaya Cole (Dunedin, New Zealand).
- With eight newcomers on the roster and six departures, the Bulls return at least 55% of their key statistics; 56.4% of kills, 58.6% of points, 58.5% of digs, 64.3% of aces, 69.3% of blocks and 86.0% of sets.
