Bulls Stampede Over Lions on Saturday Afternoon

ST. LOUIS – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball (2-1, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Lindenwood Lions (1-1, 0-0 OVC) in four sets to close out their weekend at the Billiken Invitational.
Manoela Forlin recorded her 11th career double-double with a match-high16 kills and 12 digs. She also added two aces and a block. Sydney Bell and Hailey Campagna each added 10 kills. Anaya Cole had a match-high 15 digs.
Maddie Mitchell tallied 35 assists on the afternoon.
SET 1 | The Bulls fell in the first set as their offense failed to find a rhythm. Buffalo hit just .028 as the Lions hit .259. After trading points, the Bulls were playing catchup the rest of the set. The deficit became too much as Lindenwood won, 25-18.
SET 2 | The Bulls nearly led wire to wire in the second as there was just one tie. Buffalo's offense was better on the attack as they finished with a .212 hitting percentage. Despite losing the set, the Lions outhit the Bulls with a .344 hitting percentage. Buffalo took advantage from the service line as they had four aces while not allowing an ace. Buffalo tied the match after a 25-23 set win.
SET 3 | Buffalo's offense was solid in the third as they finished with 13 kills on 31 attempts with just three errors. Lindenwood took a 20-17 lead, but the Bulls rattled off an 8-2 run to close the set for the 25-22 win.
SET 4 | The Bulls forced 11 total errors by the Lions in the fourth. Bell and Nienke Trossel both finished with four kills in the set. Mitchell tallied 11 assists on Buffalo's 14 kills as Buffalo won, 25-22, to take the match.
"I feel like we took a strong step forward with this match today," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "We showed poise under pressure and executed some big plays when we needed them most. I especially liked what we did from behind the service line forcing Lindenwood out of system much of the match. We need to continue to diversify our offense and utilize all of our strengths."
The Bulls return home for the next three matches for the Buffalo/Canisius Invitational. Buffalo will host Canisius on Wednesday at 6 p.m. followed by UMBC on Friday at 6 p.m. Their weekend will close against Dartmouth on Saturday at 2 p.m.
