
Five Bulls Earn Academic All-MAC Recognition

BUFFALO, NY – Five members of the University at Buffalo men's tennis team were named to the 2025 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, the league announced on Monday afternoon. A total of 22 student-athletes were named to this year's squad.
Seniors Daniils Snaiders and Cheng Tang earn the honor for the third straight season, senior Yu-Shiang Huang and junior Theodoros Mitsakos earn the recognition for the second time and Michael Malkin was named to the squad for the first time in his career.
Snaiders, a communication major with a 3.61 GPA, finished his decorated career as the program's all-time leader in doubles wins (70) while also ranking in the top 20 in career singles victories. Snaiders recorded 18 singles victories, including back-to-back clutch victories at the MAC Tournament, as a senior while adding 21 doubles victories, primarily at the first position.
An aerospace engineering major with a 3.248 GPA, Tang saved his best tennis for his final season in Buffalo, setting career-highs and reaching double-digit win totals in both singles and doubles action for the second straight year, while earning MAC Player of the Week honors three times. He ranked second on the team with 19 wins in singles play, most notably notching back-to-back clinching points at the MAC Tournament Championship, earning him Most Outstanding Player honors. He also compiled 17 doubles victories, primarily with teammate Snaiders at the first and second positions. Tang finishes his career ranked third in program history with 63 doubles victories and also ranks 12th with 58 singles wins.
Huang, a health and human services major with a 3.442 GPA, went 8-4 overall in singles action as a senior, while adding 12 doubles victories, including going 8-3 with Malkin primarily at the first position. Huang finishes his UB career ranked 15th in program history with 49 doubles victories.
A communication major with a 3.617 GPA, Mitsakos earned postseason honors for the second straight year as he was named to the All-MAC Second Team after tying a career-high with 17 singles victories, primarily at the first position, while also recording a career-best 19 doubles victories, including 10 with partner Mainguy, good for second best on the squad. With this successful junior campaign, Mitsakos moved into a tie for 18th in program history in career singles wins (49) and doubles victories (44).
Malkin, a business administration major with a 3.212 GPA, recorded a career-best 15 singles wins as a sophomore while adding a team and career-best 20 doubles victories, including an 8-3 mark with Huang primarily at the first position. With his doubles success, Malkin now sits in 28th place all time in program history with 34 doubles wins.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and ANY transfer students in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments for the current season only are considered.
