
Bulls Earn Seven Medals on Day Two of MAC Indoor Championships

YPSILANTI, MICH. – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at day two of the MAC Indoor Championships on the campus of Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Bulls earned seven medals on the second day, three of which were gold.
The Bulls finished fourth on the men's side with a score of 84. The Buffalo women placed 11th with a score of 26.
COMBINED EVENTS
Kevin Gabalski earned second place in the men's heptathlon with a new personal record score of 5,246. Gabalski's personal best ranks fifth all-time in UB indoor history. The senior's silver medal was the fourth MAC medal of his career.
Gabalski began the men's heptathlon on Friday by tying his season-best time of 7.15 seconds in the men's 60-meter dash to finish second. The senior continued his momentum in the long jump setting a new personal record of 6.83 meters and in the shot put, taking second with a mark of 12.03 meters. Gabalski closed out day one by finishing first in the high jump with a mark of 1.88 meters.
On day two, the senior continued his momentum by taking first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.19. Gabalski then finished second in the pole vault with a personal record mark of 4.40 meters and sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:59.21.
SPRINTS
Michael Parks won the men's 60-meter hurdles event with a time of 8.05 seconds. Parks' gold medal was the first of his career at UB. The junior was two-hundredths of a second shy of his personal record that ranks fourth all-time in UB indoor history.
Gabalski doubled back to win his second medal of the day and the fifth of his career, taking bronze in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 to give the Bulls two of the top three spots.
Tal Hamel won the men's 200-meter with a time of 21.45 to earn the first MAC gold medal of his career. Hamel also finished sixth in the men's 60-meter earlier in the afternoon with a time of 6.87.
JUMPS
Zahra Amos earned her third gold medal in the women's high jump, defending her MAC indoor title with an indoor school record mark of 1.81 meters. Amos won the indoor title last year, setting the previous school record of 1.80 meters. Stella Kapp finished fifth (1.72m) and Akuot Kuany earned 10th (1.68m).
Brian Murphy earned a bronze medal in the men's pole vault with a new personal record mark of 4.91 meters. Murphy's new best ranks forth all-time in UB indoor history.
Freshman Micah Blair placed fourth in the men's triple jump with a new personal record indoor mark of 14.15 meters. On the women's side, Kuany placed eighth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.02 meters. Sophomore Kara Moran took 11th with a mark of 12.00 meters.
Freshman Ryan Cardichon finished ninth in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters. Calvin Finger trailed with a mark of 1.85 meters to take 10th.
DISTANCE
Luke Stoeffler earned his second medal of the weekend, taking bronze in the men's 3,000-meter with a time of 8:16.30. Stoeffler was three seconds shy of his personal record that ranks fourth in program history. Collin Stafford finished fifth in the event with a time of 8:24.27.
Aidan Norris placed sixth in the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:54.85. The freshman was less than a second shy of his personal record in the event (1:54.09).
Kevin Sherry finished eighth in the men's mile with a time of 4:22.39, as Vincent Guaresimo took ninth with a time of 4:22.64.
Lacey Danilovitz finished the women's 3,000-meter with a season-best time of 10:09.32 to finish 17th. Danilovitz was ranked 21st in the conference headed into the championships.
The Bulls finished fourth in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:23.49. The indoor program record for the event is 3:10.62. The Buffalo women finished ninth with a time of 3:57.63. The women's indoor record is 3:39.70.
THROWS
Aiden Walker finished sixth in the men's shot put with a new personal record mark of 16.02 meters. Walker was under a meter shy of reaching the UB indoor record books (16.82m). On the women's side, Bernice Balk finished 12th in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.26 meters.
