3/20/2025 9:28:00 AM | Track and Field
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program is opening the outdoor season on Friday at the University of Richmond Fred Hardy Invite. The Bulls will utilize the season-opening meet to familiarize many freshmen and sophomores with the outdoor action.
The outdoor season brings changes to the event list, with several events unique to outdoor meets.
Kenneth Gulloso and Loretta White begin the action with the hammer throw, an event only held in the outdoor season. Both Gulloso (52.27m) and White (47.06m) posted personal best performances at the Cardinal Classic last season. Gulloso's mark reached the all-time ranks for the Bulls, taking eighth in UB outdoor history.
Sophomore Brianna Carter and graduate transfer Eliza Medearis are set to compete in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Carter posted a personal record of 11:07.27 at the 2024 MAC Outdoor Championships to rank ninth all-time in program history.
The Bulls will have eight athletes compete in the 100-meter dash, four on the men's side and four on the women's.
Amber McDonald headlines the women's sprinters after running the fastest time on the Bulls roster last season at the Cardinal Classic (12.32). Uma Bhattacharjee is also set to compete, running the second fastest time a year ago at the UB Alumni Invite (12.50). On the men's side, Jermaine Ewers begins the outdoor season looking to pick up where he left off. The senior had a season-best time of 10.54 in the event at MAC Outdoor Championships, rising to fourth all-time in UB history.
The Bulls freshman class has already made their mark on UB indoor history, looking to transfer that success to the outdoor season too.
Isa van Puffelen closed out the indoor season with a personal record score of 3,623 in the pentathlon at conference championships. van Puffelen is expected to compete in the women's long jump at Richmond. The freshman's indoor personal record in the event was a mark of 5.39 meters.
Ryan Cardichon is expected to compete in the men's high jump. The freshman set a new personal record of 2.07 meters at Akron's Al Campbell Invitational to join the all-time indoor ranks at sixth in program history.
Aidan Norris is scheduled to compete in the men's 800-meter. Norris joined the UB indoor record book in the 1,000-meter at the Penn State National Open with a time of 2:27.28 to take ninth all-time.
