
Six Bulls Earn All-MAC Track and Field Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced their 2023 Outdoor Track and Field All-MAC honors on Wednesday morning. Six Bulls earned honors this season.
MEN'S FIRST TEAM ALL-MAC
Danil Chernov, Javelin
Chernov threw a huge personal best of 64.15-meters/210'6" on his fourth attempt to win the men's javelin competition by nearly 4 meters over 2nd place finisher Scott Benco of KSU (60.41-meters/198'2"). Chernov's mark moved him to 3rd all-time in UB school history, and he became the Bulls' first MAC Champion in the event since Casey Garbaty in 2010.
Jonathan Surdej, Shot Put
Surdej continued his domination of the men's shot put, winning by over 1' with a throw of 57'7.25". The win marked his third consecutive outdoor gold medal in the event.
MEN'S SECOND TEAM ALL-MAC
Kevin Gabalski, Decathlon
Gabalski brought home the silver medal in the men's decathlon with a new personal best of 6604 points. Gabalski finished the event strong, tying for 1st in the pole vault and running a personal best in the 1500-meters.
WOMEN'S FIRST TEAM ALL-MAC
Christina Wende, Long Jump and Triple Jump
Wende backed up her indoor MAC Championship gold medal by winning the 2023 outdoor gold medal in the women's long jump with a jump of 20'5.75", breaking her own school record by .5" and bettering Jenelle Rogers of Ball State by 1.25". She also earned a bronze medal in the triple jump with a distance of 42'2".
Scilla Benussi, Javelin and Heptathlon
Benussi earned a victory in the women's javelin competition, tossing the javelin 42.10-meters/138'1", upsetting the 2nd place finisher and the number 1 seed Laurel Bristow of Akron (41.66-meters/136'8"). She became the Bulls' first MAC Champion in the event since Vanessa Roelofsen's victories in 2007 and 2008. Her total score of 5266 points in the women's heptathlon earned her the bronze medal and is a new personal best mark, moving her to the 2nd all-time for UB behind Emma Siuciak's 5388 points.
WOMEN'S SECOND TEAM ALL-MAC
Zaria Fuller, High Jump
Fuller closed out her career as a Bull earning the silver medal in the women's high jump with a height of 5'8". Fuller also competed on the 4 x 100-meter relay team that raced to a season's best of 47.08, placing 8th overall.
