AUSTIN, Texas – The University at Buffalo men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Texas Relays on Friday, setting several personal bests at the site of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in June.
The 4 x 100-meter relays started the day, with the women's squad of Travasia Singletary, Kaylah Britt, Christina Wende, and Zaria Fuller running 48.64 in their season opener, placing 25th. The men also placed 25th, with the team of Jean Desir, Tal Hamel, Chineme Ononiwu, and Jaron Meyer finishing in a time of 42.33.
In the women's 100-meters, Singletary took over .2 seconds off her previous best, finishing in 12.29.
The 100-meter hurdles were led by Wende, who set a personal best of 14.35, placing 35th of 78 competitors. Her time ranks seventh in the MAC. Fuller ran a strong season opener in 14.61.
In the men's 100-meters, Desir and Hamel ran times of 10.86 and 10.93, respectively. Hamel's finish was a lifetime personal best, and the times rank as the fifth and sixth-fastest in the conference.
The day concluded for the Bulls with the 110-meter hurdles. Chineme Ononiwu crushed his previous best by over .3 of a second, running 14.34. Freshman Michael Parks improved his season's best time from last week's Raleigh Relays, running 14.68.
"This meet provided valuable experience for the team in high level competition," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "We still have work to do on our relay teams, working out the best order and individuals to provide the most cohesive team. Individually, each brings a lot of speed and ability, and once we iron out the kinks, our squads will be very competitive."
