Bulls Continue MAC Play This Week

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team (5-2-4, 2-1-1 MAC) continues Mid-American Conference play this week with a game at Central Michigan on Thursday night before returning home to host Ball State on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium in a rematch of the 2022 MAC Championship game.
The Bulls are participating in Student Athlete Mental Health Week alongside Hilinski's Hope and 160+ other universities. The student-athletes will be wearing green ribbon patches on their jerseys as well as other green accessories to help raise awareness and break the stigma.
On Thursday, Buffalo and Central Michigan will meet for the 30th time with the Chippewas owning a 14-9-6 series edge. The Bulls defeated the Chippewas 2-1 at UB Stadium last season.
On Sunday, it will be the 25th meeting between Buffalo and Ball State with the Cardinals owning a narrow 11-10-3 advantage. The Bulls defeated the Cardinals 2-0 in the MAC Championship game last season.
Last week, the Bulls defeated Miami (OH) 2-0 at UB Stadium before playing to a 3-3 draw at Eastern Michigan. Freshman Ashley Reyes recorded the first goal of her UB career on Sunday while sophomore Katie Krohn continued her dominating play, scoring four goals across the two games. She has now recorded a career-best four multi-goal games on the season, including three of four to start league play.
Krohn leads the MAC with 10 goals on the year while also leading the league and ranking in the top 15 in the nation in goals per game (0.91), total points (22), points per game (2.0). She also ranks in the top three in the league in total shots (32) and shots per game (2.91). Fifth year Leah Wengender has three goals and three assists while Arianna Zumpano and Reyes have recorded a goal each. Senior Rebecca Winslow leads the Bulls between the pipes, compiling a 1-1-2 overall record with two shutouts. She has made 10 saves while recording a .714 save percentage and .95 goals against average.
As a team, the Bulls lead the MAC in goals allowed (9) and goals against average (0.82) while ranking in the top four in goals (15), points (45), assists (15) and shots (152).
Central Michigan enters Thursday's match with a 2-4-3 overall record after dropping a pair of games to Western Michigan and Toledo last week. Junior forward Jenna Little leads the Chippewas offensively with five goals while Claudia Muessig has added two goals and an assist on the season. In net, Central Michigan is led by redshirt junior Allison LaPoint who has made 45 saves and owns a 0.804 save percentage and a 1.38 goals against average in eight starts.
Ball State is 4-5-2 overall and 2-0-2 in league play after defeating Toledo 2-1 and playing to a 2-2 draw at Western Michigan last week. Senior forward Avery Fenchel leads the Cardinals offensively with six goals while Lexi Fraley and Emily Roper have added three goals each. In net, Ball State is led by junior Bethany Moser who has made 45 saves and owns a 0.703 save percentage and a 1.82 goals against average across 11 starts.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will continue league action on Thursday, October 12 at Northern Illinois.
