
Bulls Wrap Up Jam Packed Weekend

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field teams participated at the Penn State National and Youngstown State Collegiate Invite on Friday and Saturday. Many Bulls set season bests with several breaking into the program's all-time top-10.

PENN STATE NATIONAL – DAY ONE
Christina Wende placed second in the women's triple jump, with a distance of 39'-06.50"/12.05m. She also tied her personal best mark in the 60-meter hurdles of 8.80-seconds in the preliminary rounds, just missing out of advancing to finals by .06-seconds. Kaylah Britt placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 38'02.75"/11.65m. Also competing for the Bulls were Priscilla Faa and Travasia Singletary, who placed ninth (7.79-seconds) and 16th (7.85-seconds) respectively a very strong 60-meter field.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, both Humphrey Banful and Chineme Ononiwu advanced to finals, with Ononiwu having a break-through day, placing fifth in finals in 8.19-seconds. This time is the 10th best in UB History and ranks fourth in the MAC. In the men's 5,000-meter run, graduate transfer Michael Neeson ran to his first ever sub-15:00 race, running 14:48.28 and placing sixth overall. He ran through the 3,000-meter and 3,200-meter marks in personal best times.
YOUNGSTOWN STATE COLLEGIATE INVITE
The Bulls had a strong day in the throwing events. Caleb Nickens won the weight throw (60'-08.50"/18.50) as teammate Andrew Pietrantoni threw nearly 1.5-meter personal best for third place, 56'-00.00"/17.07m. For the women, Asia Hoyte took home the win in a distance of 58'-10.75"/17.95m, moving her to fourth in the MAC rankings. In the shot put, Molly McCreedy placed second in the field of 51, and Jonathan Surdej placed second of 38 with a season's best throw of 55'-03.50"/16.85m.
Freshman Jermaine Ewers sprinted to a new personal best in the finals of the men's 60-meter dash placing sixth in 6.96-seconds. Junior Jaron Meyers, in his first competition of the season, placed 10th of 65 in the 200-meter dash in 22.49-seconds. Both Connor Lehr and Aaron Essien ran personal best marks in the 400-meter dash, placing eighth (50.53-seconds) and ninth (50.55-seconds) respectively in the field of 56. In the middle and distance events, freshman Fernando Sanchez improved his season's best 800-meter time placing seventh in 1:58.91. Evan Hilbert ran a new personal best in the mile with a time of 4:19.79 placing sixth of 65. William Marchant ran a personal best time of 8:37.13 to place eighth in the men's 3,000-meter in a field of 50.
Antoinette Miller ran a season's best of 7.86-seconds in the 60-meter dash final and placed seventh out of 90 competitors. Also running a season's best was Emma Seiders in the 400-meter dash in 59.77-seconds. Seiders finished fourth out of 58 competitors. In a very strong field in the women's mile, graduate transfer Anya Schmitt ran a personal best of 5:13.23 as Lily Meek ran a season's best of 5:15.68, placing 10th and 12th respectively in the field of 65. In the women's 60-meter hurdles, both Scilla Benussi (9.11-seconds) and Lydia Lanski (9.15-seconds) ran personal best marks placing fourth and fifth in the finals. Zaria Fuller continues to have a break-through season, winning the women's long jump in a new personal best of 18'-9" (5.71m). Her mark moves her to 10th on the UB all-time records list and ranks her seventh in the MAC.
PENN STATE NATIONAL – DAY TWO
Brandon Burke won the high jump in a season best 2.17-meters/7'-01.50", just 1" off his lifetime best. Burke ranks first in the MAC and is tied for seventh in the NCAA.
Johann Matzal ran in indoor college best of 1:53.37 placing eighth in the 800-meter. Thomas Flannery shaved another second off his mile personal best to run a very strong 4:07.88 placing third overall. He is ranked second in the MAC and just short of Crimmins' 2016 record of 4:07.45. In the men's 3,000-meter run, Alex Hislop had a big personal best and placed eighth of the 11-man field in 8:27.20. Hislop's time moves him to eighth on the UB all-time top-10 list.
