
Bulls Fall 3-0 To Kent State

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Kent State on Thursday night in the first of two straight matches against the Golden Flashes at Alumni Arena.
Kent State took the contest 25-15, 25-17, 25-18 as the Golden Flashes outhit the Bulls, .329 to .140. The Bulls had their best offensive set in the second, hitting just shy of .300, but Kent State outdid UB in that set hitting .520.
The Bulls held on to an early lead in the third set with a 9-7 advantage following a Kent State attack error, but the Golden Flashes responded with five straight points and never trailed again.
Freshman Emma Gielas led the Bulls offensively with nine kills, while junior Monika Simkova had six kills and just one error as she hit.312. Sophomores Courtney Okwara and Abby Leigh also added six kills as Okwara hit a team-high .400.
Junior Kyndal Bacon finished with 14 assists, while sophomore Emma Puzausky added 11.
Defensively, the Bulls finished with six blocks, led by four from Okwara and three from redshirt freshman Olivia DeBortoli.
Sophomore Jenna Sonnenberg paced UB with six digs, while junior Paige Beck added five.
The Bulls will host Kent State again on Friday afternoon at 2pm.
