
Bulls Fall To Ball State, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team had their long awaited home opener on Thursday evening, but the Bulls fell to the Ball State Cardinals, 3-0.
The Cardinals, who remained undefeated with the win, took the match 25-18, 25-14, 25-16 as Ball State outhit UB, .345 to .158.
The Bulls came out swinging in the first set as Buffalo hit .333, but Ball State outdid them, hitting .400. UB took its largest lead of the set at 9-6 on a triple block from Olivia DeBortoli, Abby Leigh, and Emma Gielas, but the Cardinals answered with a 9-2 run to take the lead and eventually the set.
Ball State continued to hit over .300 in both the second and third sets to take the victory.
Freshman Emma Gielas was impressive again for UB as she tied for match high honors with 10 kills. Gielas had zero errors as she hit .435.
Leigh also had a sold night with six kills and just one error, while chipping in three aces, seven digs, and two blocks. Freshman Stacia Gollogly had five kills, while Courtney Okwara and Monika Simkova each had three.
Junior Kyndal Bacon and sophomore Emma Puzausky both finished with 12 assists.
Defensively, sophomore Jenna Sonnenberg had 11 digs, while junior Paige Beck added four. Okwara led the Bulls with three blocks, including a solo.
UB again was undone by errors as they had 27 in the match, including 15 from the service line.
The Bulls and Cardinals will complete their two-match series tomorrow at 2 pm.
