BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced the addition of three student-athletes to his 2020 signing class on Monday. The Bulls will now welcome a total of seven student-athletes to a team that advanced to the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the sixth straight season in 2019.
"We are excited to welcome three new additions to our program," said Burke. "Any time we can add impact players to an already talented roster puts us in a better place to compete in November."
Alexia Cajilig – Pickering, ON, Canada – St. Mary C.S.S. – Defender
Cajilig comes to Buffalo from Pickering, Ontario, Canada where she attended St. Mary C.S.S. and was selected to train with the Canadian REX program. She was a member of the U15 Canadian National Team that earned a silver medal at the U15 CONCACAF tournament. She also was a three-year member of Team Ontario that competed in the Ontario vs. Quebec Provincial Series from 2016-18. Locally, she excelled for the Pickering Soccer Club and was invited to attend the Team Ontario Trials. Off the pitch, Cajilig was an honor roll student, earning the 2015 E.J. Finan Award given to the most outstanding student.
Burke on Cajilig: "Alexia is a special talent who has been training with the Canadian REX program and has a wealth of experience playing at a high level. Her versatility and athleticism will cause a lot of problems for MAC opponents."
Emily Lazenby – Richmond Hill, ON, Canada – Ontario Provincial Team – Defender
Lazenby comes to Buffalo from the University of Memphis where she appeared in two games for the Tigers. She made her collegiate debut in the season opener against Little Rock (Aug. 23) and played a season-high 27 minutes against Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 12). A four-sport standout in high school, Lazenby was a three-time member of the Ontario Provincial Team and was selected to the 2015 Ontario REX program. She helped lead her squad to the OPDL Charity Shield championship in 2015 and was a finalist for the Indoor Ontario Cup U18 and Outdoor Ontario Cup U21 in 2018. Lazenby was selected to compete for Team Canada at the 2013 Danone Nations Cup. She also lettered in volleyball, cross country and track and field and also played ringette for seven years and was a member of the first team from the Richmond Hill club to medal at the Eastern Canadian Championships by taking bronze in 2015. Off the field, Lazenby earned honor roll accolades all four years.
Burke on Lazenby: "We recruited Emily aggressively during her club years and feel fortunate to have her transferring in this January. Her soccer IQ and experience should allow her to compete right away in the back."
Skylar Munnikhuysen – Wilson, NY – Western New York Flash – Forward
Munnikhuysen comes to Buffalo from Wilson, NY where she was a three-sport athlete at Wilson High School, earning all-league honors in soccer, basketball and track. The local standout had an excellent youth club record with Empire United, finishing as a two-time State Cup finalist before transitioning to play for the Western New York Flash.
Burke on Munnikhuysen: "Skylar is an exceptional local athlete who we identified through our ID camps. She adds depth in our attack with tremendous speed and work rate."
