
Bulls Ramp Up for Penn State National Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field team will travel to University Park, Pa. as they will participate in this year's Penn State National Invite. The meet will start on Friday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. at the Multi-Sport Facility & Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track facility and will carry over into Saturday. Day two will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. This year's field will comprise of schools from across the northeast including Akron, Army West Point, Ashland, Bucknell, Duquesne, Findlay, Guelph, Hampton, IUP, Indiana Tech, James Madison, LaSalle, Maryland, Mount Saint Mary's, Youngstown State, Towson, UMBC, Richmond, Georgetown and others.
LAST TIME OUT
At the Cornell Upstate Challenge, Kelsey Shapiro finished in second place in the pentathlon with a total score of 3,271 points. This marked her personal-best score by over 300 points. Steven Gilfus finished in eighth place in the men's heptathlon a score of 4,051.
Senior Sam Wray won the weight throw with a distance of 18.92m, this distance was almost two meters further than the next competitor. Wray looks to beat his personal-best of 19.20m/63-00.00 this weekend. In the women's shot put, Molly McCreedy won with a distance of 14.77m, a personal-best. Nakia Williams, Jr. tied his personal-best in the high jump with a height of 2.04m/6-08.25.
In the women's long jump, Christina Wende set a college personal-best as she leaped a distance of 5.54m/18-02.25. This distance also marked a season-best for the program.
Antoinette Miller had a breakthrough day as she finished in second place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.83, while also finishing second in the high jump. Her height of 1.67m/5-05.75 is now ninth in UB's all-time list. Both her marks are both personal-records.
LOOKING AHEAD
Due to facility renovations, the Bulls will not participate in this year's Spire D-I Invite as it has been canceled. The team will travel to Akron, Ohio to compete in the Akron Invitational on February 7-8 that will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Penn State National Invite will feature live stats and a live streaming service presented by FloTrack.
