
Women’s Soccer Hits Road for Two MAC Contests

BUFFALO, NY – Winners of four straight matches, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team hits the road for two league contests this week. The Bulls visit Central Michigan on Thursday at 7pm, followed by a Sunday showdown at Eastern Michigan at 1pm.
On Thursday, it will be the 26th all-time meeting between Buffalo and Central Michigan with the Chippewas holding a 13-7-5 edge in the series. The Bulls defeated the Chippewas 2-0 at UB Stadium last season.
On Sunday, Buffalo and Eastern Michigan will also meet for the 26th time with the Eagles holding the narrow 10-8-7 series edge. The Bulls are 4-0-1 in their last five meetings with the Eagles.
Buffalo is coming off another big 2-0 weekend as they were able to collect a 5-0 victory over Kent State on Friday night before defeating Western Michigan in a 2-1 overtime thriller on Senior Day on Sunday. Sophomore Hannah Callaghan recorded a pair of goals, both coming on headers off set pieces, and Kara Daly, Leah Wengender and Gianna Yurchak also added a goal of their own while the Bulls defense recorded their fifth clean sheet of the season in the dominant win over NIU on Friday night. Walsh netted the game-winner in the first minute of overtime off the assist from Daly and Marcy Barberic.
As a team the Bulls have scored 28 goals off the feet of 14 different players, the most of any team in the MAC. Barberic leads the Bulls with five goals and three assists while Daly, Callaghan and Walsh have all chipped in three goals apiece. Sophomore Emily Kelly has been a reliant force between the pipes for UB, compiling an 8-6-1 record with a 1.06 goals against average, 65 saves and three shutouts on the season.
Central Michigan enters Thursday's match with a 7-3-3 overall, 4-3-1 MAC record after playing to a 1-1 draw at Kent State on Sunday. The Chippewas are led offensively by Senior Marle Bringard who has recorded 14 points on six goals and two assists to go along with a team-best 39 shots. Junior Alina Miagkova and freshman Lauren DeBeau have also impressed, scoring three goals apiece on the year.
In net, the Chippewas have relied on Zoie Reed who has compiled a 7-3-3 overall record with a 0.78 goals against average and 64 saves in 13 starts this season.
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend with a 4-10-2 overall, 3-5 MAC record, after falling 1-0 at Ohio on Sunday. The Eagles are led offensively by redshirt junior Sabrina McNeill who has recorded five goals on a team-best 42 shots this season. Junior Lindsey Shira has also been a main contributor as she has recorded 10 points on four goals and two assists on the year.
Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn has been a steady presence for the Eagles in net, as she has recorded a 3-7-2 overall record with a 2.25 goals against average and 70 saves in 13 appearances this season.
Following weekend play, the Bulls will conclude the regular season at Akron on Thursday, October 31, in a 3pm match with the Zips.
