
Two Former UB Wrestlers Inducted Into National Wrestling Hall Of Fame

BUFFALO, NY – A pair of former University at Buffalo wrestlers, James Lamb and Anthony Policare, have been selected for induction into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Upstate New York Chapter. The 18th annual Hall of Fame Day Banquet will be held in East Syracuse, NY on Sunday, September 21.
"I am excited for both Coach Lamb and Coach Policare, this is remarkable accomplishment for them and their families," stated second-year head coach John Stutzman. "I have had the pleasure of knowing these two exceptional coaches as I have worked with both of them on numerous occasions. On behalf of UB wrestling I want to congratulate them on being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame the New York Chapter."
James Lamb, who has served as the head wrestling coach at Williamsville South High School – 1985 to 2001, will be honored with the Lifetime Service Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Upstate New York Chapter. Lamb started his wrestling career at the University at Buffalo, under the guidance of National Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Ed Michael.
Following graduation from the University at Buffalo, Jim worked two years at North Dakota State University with Bucky Maughan and began a short coaching career in North Dakota where he won two North Star Conference championships. Lamb eventually found his way back to Buffalo and compiled an outstanding coaching record at Williamsville South high school. Over his coaching career, Lamb has coached eight Section VI Champions and one State Champion in North Dakota and New York. He is also the founding President of the Western New York Wrestling Coaches Association.
Anthony Policare will join his Buffalo teammate, James Lamb, as a Lifetime Service Award recipient at the 2014 induction ceremony. Tony had a very successful wrestling career under Coach Ed Michael at the University at Buffalo qualifying for two NCAA – Division I championships. While at Buffalo, Tony was selected the Most Valuable Wrestler in 1972 and earned the honor of being the team captain in 1973. In 1999 the University of Buffalo selected Tony to join their Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition, to his outstanding collegiate wrestling career, Policare has achieved many prestigious awards in the area of Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling.
Policare has coached the Vestal High School wrestling program to 34 consecutive winning seasons and has compiled more than 400 victories. He has been awarded five "Coach of the Year Awards" and has coached numerous sectional and conference champions during his illustrious career. Policare has worked many summer camps and clinics and is noted for teaching the "Vestal cradle series."
