Buffalo Wrestling Adds Transfer Angelo Malvestuto

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo wrestling team added critical depth Friday with the addition of transfer Angelo Malvestuto. After wrestling at 184 and 197 pounds for ACC power Virginia Tech for the past two seasons, Angelo will come to UB and compete immediately for a starting position in the lineup.
"Angelo was a proven winner in high school," said head assistant coach Matt Lackey. "Coming to Buffalo after spending two years at Virginia Tech allows him to make an immediate impact at a weight class where we need him. One more stepping stone has been added in our climb to the top of the MAC with the Addition of Angelo."
After redshirting in his freshman year with the Hokies, Malvestuto went 21-13 with five major decision, two technical falls and six pins. He went 7-1 at the Harris Open to place third and placed sixth at the prestigious Nittany Lion Open after going 5-2. He placed in the top three at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial tournament after going 6-1 and he also competed at the ACC Championships.
The move to UB will be a home coming for Angelo, who was a standout just down the road at Niagara-Wheatfield High School. He was a New York state champion as a senior after taking second place twice and fourth place in his prep career. In his final season, he went a perfect 48-0 with a school-record 38 pins. He is Niagara-Wheatfield's program record holder with 225 career victories. He took second at the 2009 NHSCA Junior Nationals and was a three-time high school All-American. Coming out of high school, Angelo was ranked as the No. 20 189-pounder in the country by InterMat.
Angelo will have three remaining years of eligibility with the Bulls.
