BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo wrestling coaching staff continues to find top talent in the early signing period, following up last year's nationally ranked recruiting class with two-time New York state and two-time NHSCA national champion Chris Nevinger. The current high school senior from Letchworth High School signed yesterday and is projected to wrestle at 157 or 165 pounds for Buffalo in 2012-13.
"Chis is a great kid and great student, he fits in well with what we're looking for and the guys really like him," said head assistant coach Matt Lackey. "He's a very quiet, humble kid who is mature physically and has proven to be a top-caliber talent in the nation. We expect him to come in and be a difference maker for us."
Nevinger has already been a difference maker for his high school, winning a state title at 145 pounds in 2010 and at 152 pounds last season. He has also made his name known on a national level, winning two NHSCA (National High School Coaches Association) titles as a freshman and sophomore, and placing third last season.
At the moment, Nevinger is currently excelling at his other sport - football. Serving as the team's running back, he has rushed for 1465 yards and 20 touchdowns so far this season and has his team in the Class D NYSPHSAA Football Regionals.
