Schutt and Golba Finish as All-Americans at University Nationals

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo wrestling team competed unattached at the 2010 ASICS University Nationals on the campus of the University of Akron on April 8-11 as sophomore Taylor Golba and freshman Andrew Schutt recorded the team's top individual finishes as All-Americans in their respective weight classes.
Schutt was the Bulls' top performer at the event, earning double All-American status. The freshman finished fourth in the 63 kg/138.75 pound weight class of the university-men's freestyle bracket and sixth in the 63 kg/138.75 pound weight class of the university-Greco Roman bracket. In the university-men's freestyle field of competition, he rattled off a five-bout win streak to finish with a record of 6-2, including a victory over 2010 NCAA national qualifier Derek Gillespie of Air Force in the wrestleback portion. In the university-Greco Roman bracket, Schutt compiled a 2-2 record, falling to Ian Paddock of Ohio State before defaulting to finish in sixth.
Finishing in seventh place in the 63 kg/138.75 pound weight class of the university-Greco Roman bracket, Golba earned All-American status. The sophomore defeated Ryan Lowery of King College to earn his seventh-place finish with a 2-2 record. Golba also competed in the 60kg/138.75 pound weight class of the university-men's freestyle bracket but did not place.
In the 70 kg/154.25 pound weight class of the university-men's freestyle bracket, sophomore Mark Lewandowski finished among the top 16 competitiors. In wrestlebacks, Lewandowski went on the three-bout win streak, compiling a 4-2 record.
Also competing unattached in the university-men's freestyle bracket were freshmen Sean Walton and Justin Farmer at 60 kg/132.25 pounds; junior John Crisafulli and redshirt freshman Chris Conti at 63 kg/138.75 pounds; freshmen Brian Sewalt and Josh Micek at 70 kg/154.25 pounds; senior Andrew Stella and sophomore Desi Green at 74 kg/163 pounds; freshman Kenny Betts, freshman Pat Brady, sophomore Ron Majerus and junior Brian Sheehan at 79 kg/174 pounds; and junior Jimmy Hamel at 84 kg/185 pounds. Sewalt also competed in the 70 kg/154.25 pound weight class in the university-Greco Roman bracket.
