2009: Played in 112 sets for the Bulls and finished fourth on the team in kills with 213...led UB in blocking with 115 total blocks, including100 block assists...was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week once during the season...had a season-high 14 kills in a five-set win over Western Michigan (10/17)...had 13 kills on two occasions, once against Akron (11/12) and again in UB’s MAC Tournament win over Kent State (11/17)...had nine total blocks in a five-set win over Akron (10/8) and recorded at least seven total blocks on six different occasions on the season...UB Scholar Athlete.
2008: One of just two players to play in all 108 sets on the season...led the Bulls in kills (252), hitting percentage (.307) and total blocks (1.01)...was named MAC East Player of the Week twice and was named to the All-Tournament team in all three of UB’s non-conference tournaments...had a career-high 16 kills, 30 attempts and five digs against UM-Eastern Shore (9/12)...set a school record for individual hitting percentage with her .882 game against Butler (9/13), the highest hitting percentage in the MAC over the season...had 15 kills against Butler (9/13) and Bowling Green (10/11)...had 13 kills and just one error against Kennesaw State (8/31) and 11 kills and no errors against Albany (9/5)...had a career-high eight blocks against Ball State (10/4) and seven blocks against Akron (10/3) and Northern Illinois (10/17)...was named to the Academic All-MAC Team...UB Scholar Athlete.
2007: One of four players to see action in all 110 games for the Bulls...was named the team’s Most Improved Player...was fifth on the team with 171 kills and first on the team with 89 block assists...had a career-high 12 kills against Miami (11/10) and also added 10 kills against Niagara (9/5)...recorded a career-best six block assists against Toledo (11/3)...UB Scholar Athlete.
High School: Helped lead her team to a 30-0 record as a senior for head coach Jeff Shortt at Norwell District...was named Most Valuable Player in 2006-07, as well as an All-Star..helped lead her team to two consecutive titles at the Central Western Ontario Secondary School Association Championships and twice to the consolation finals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association Championships...was also a member of the basketball team at Norwell District...played for the Waterloo Tigers Volleyball Club.
Personal: Born December 6, 1989...daughter of Robert and Sheila...has one brother (Matthew) and one sister (Stephanie)...full name is Laura Kristin Bignell...chose UB over Cornell, Kent State and St. Francis because of the academics, athletics, location and atmosphere...greatest athletic experience was winning the CWOSSA Championships as a senior...three words to describe her are competitive, determined and quiet...professional goal is to become a physical therapist...favorite food is chinese...if she could be on any reality television show, it would be Survivor.
